Pelt Car 5

The Pelt Car

The Pelt Car is a single seater buggy similar in design to the Cow Car, as seen in the final chase scenes of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.

Technical spec.[]

Virtually no information is available on technical specification of this vehicle, one can only suspect the donor of the vehicle could be a Ford-F chassis judging by the rims and the wheelbase.

The name of the vehicle comes from the fact that it has animal pelt attached to the body. The vehicle is very similar in design to the Cow Car, which is also covered in animal hide. The Pelt Car, however is bigger, less streamlined and with more cumbersome methane system. The vehicle has multiple methane tanks, four large tanks on each side and additional four small tanks on the left side. A wide array of piping is seen across the back of the vehicle. Eight exhaust pipes suggest a V8 engine, the steering column is placed in the center.

Appearances on screen[]

The Pelt Car is seen in many scenes of the final chase of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, however it does not play any prominent role in the movie and is mostly used as a background vehicle.

Appearances off screen[]

The vehicle made a few appearances in promotional materials for the movie. After filming it was displayed at the Sydney Motor Show in 1985. From 1985 to 1994 it was kept in storage until it was ordered to be destroyed at Simsmetal's St Marys facility in Western Sydney in 1994, along with the rest of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome vehicles.[1]
